Newsletter, Region South, October 2023
Dear activists in the southern region,
October has been an active month; we started with a lobby week for the mentally ill in Norwegian prisons and finished with campaign training for Skriv for Liv this week. In addition, there has been and has been both a youth and student gathering.
October was also affected by the situation in Israel and Palestine. We understand that several people have questions and have therefore collected information on one page for you and political advisor Gerald also invites you to a topic about the conflict on Monday evening (30.10). You will find more information futher down in this newsletter.
We would also like to say thank you for the quarterly reports, it is nice to see what is happening around the region and we look forward to seeing you at the regional meeting!
We have had new office volunteers since last time, welcome to Lone and Birita who started at the regional office this autumn!
Regional leader Gunvor is still partially on sickleave. Please get in touch with the others at the regional office with any inquiries in this period.
This newsletter will go out to all activists who are registered in groups on Min Side. Currently, I see that not everyone is registered here and ask group leaders to share with those who may not have received this e-mail - thank you!

Israel/Palestine conflict
The current escalation of violence in Israel and Gaza is unprecedented and Amnesty is working to investigate and report what’s happening.
It can be difficult to understand the conflict and know what to say or do. Therefore, we have gathered relevant information and articles on our website here for you (in Norwegian).
Please don’t hesitate to contact us should you have any questions or comments.

Write for Rights 2023 - action circular!
In November and December each year, we show solidarity and create attention to the situation of four individuals who are victims of serious human rights violations.
We do this, among other things, by writing letters to those we fight for and creating awareness of their issues through activism and stunts.
In this year's campaign, we focus on Ahmed Mansoor from the United Arab Emirates, Justyna Wydrynska from Poland, Rocky Myers from the USA, Narges Mohammadi from Iran and Thapelo Mohapi from South Africa.
Read more about how you can get involved in the action guide.
NB: several of the cases will be updated and will become active for signing on 1 November.
Autumn Campaign
In October we focused on the mentally ill in Norwegian prisons. Thank you to everyone who have engaged in this campaign!
The campaign period is now coming to an end and the petition will be closed at the end of November.
Do you have any signatures from the petition? Send them to the regional office or to Oslo!
Take action for Navalny!
The politician and Kremlin critic Aleksei Navalny has been sentenced to a total of 19 years in the special-regime prison following new trumped-up charges. It means that the time he will have to spend behind bars will be prolonged with at least 10 years.
He has so far been imprisoned for 1000 days under very hard conditions in the penal colony. Aleksei Navalny will be sent to a unified penal confinement cell for a year in isolation.
The decision was made by the head of the colony where he was serving his sentence. At the same time, the Russian authorities are persecuting his lawyers who have been his main contact with the outside world.
This makes Navalny very vulnerable. It is more important than ever to call for Navalny`s release.
Please sign the action from 2021, which is still relevant
