You can save lives – by writing letters and engaging in injustice!

What is Write for Rights?

Teodora Vasquez was imprisoned for a stillbirth in El Salvador. Now she is released, after people from all over the world stood up for her. Here, she reads one of the thousands of letters she received during Write for Rights

Every November and December, we express solidarity and raise awareness about the plight of individuals who are victims of human rights abuse.

We do this by writing letters to those we advocate for, to their families, and to the authorities in the country where the human rights violations have occurred. In addition to this, we engage in advocacy in the cities where we live and online through activism and various stunts.

Millions of letters are written in support of those we advocate for each year, and stunts are organized to raise awareness of their cases worldwide. The immense volume of letters and attention also puts pressure on governments and decision-makers, showing them that the world is watching.

Anyone can participate, whether it's in a classroom, at the office, at a public spot, or at home.

The more people who engage in the causes of those we advocate for, the greater the chance that our voices will be heard!

Together, we change lives!

52% of the cases we work on in the Write for Rights campaign show positive progress.

The deadline for submitting solidarity letters is January 5th. Amnesty Norway collects all the letters at our headquarters in Oslo and forwards them to our international secretariat in London. They are then delivered to those we advocate for or their families.
