Overall:

All groups must have a group leader or group contact who has overall responsibility for communication between the group and Amnesty's secretariat. Groups should also have a deputy leader to assist the group leader.

If the group uses social media, they must have a SoMe manager who receives training in the use of social media and who is responsible for following the guidelines for social media.

It is recommended that the group has a financial manager (treasurer) who is responsible for seeking funds for events from the regional manager. If the group has its own funds, they must have their own financial manager who is responsible for ensuring that the financial guidelines for groups are followed and that a financial report is submitted.

All positions in the group must be elected through democratic elections annually. The same person can stand for re-election, but it must be open so that all interested members of the group have the opportunity to stand for election. This is because Amnesty is a democratic organization and it is important that the groups also follow democratic principles.

Elections in the groups should be carried out in the spring, by the end of April. The group itself chooses whether any newly elected persons take over the duties immediately, or whether they have an overlapping phase. It is important to transfer expertise at new elections, in that the person holding the office transfers information to the person who takes over. See separate document on competence transfer.

In order for the groups to be dynamic and not become dependent on one person, it is crucial that responsibility is distributed between the group members. It is therefore recommended that the groups also have members in other elected positions.

Group leader (sometimes referred to as group contact): Overall responsibility for the group and responsible for communication with the secretariat in general and the regional manager in particular. This includes responsibility for keeping the regional manager up to date on completed and planned activities through quarterly reporting. The group leader is the regional leader's contact person to the group and must ensure that information from the regional office is passed on to the rest of the group. The group leader is responsible for setting the agenda and calling group meetings and further delegating tasks to the rest of the group's members. Group leader should attend annual group leader meetings.

Deputy leader: Assists the group leader in all tasks. Deputy for group leader if necessary. Deputy leaders should attend annual group leader meetings.

Secretary: Responsible for distributing the agenda ahead of group meetings, writing minutes and distributing them to all members in the group.

SoMe manager: Overall responsibility for keeping the group's social media profiles up to date and in accordance with guidelines for the use of social media. Responsible for the creation of, and mobilization for, Facebook events and the dissemination of information on social media.

Communications officer: Has the overall responsibility for outward communication. Responsible for creating visibility around the group's events by contacting local media and making Amnesty's work visible through op-eds in local/national media. Responsible for taking pictures during various events and campaigns.

SoMe manager and communications manager can be merged into one role if desired.

Treasurer: Main responsibility for the group's finances and that the group follows the financial guidelines for groups. Responsible for applying for funds from the regional office for the group's events and campaigns, including preparing a budget for these.

Event manager: Overall responsibility for practical details surrounding the implementation of events and campaigns. For example logistics, light/sound, purchasing, premises, stand permit, production of printed matter etc.

Social secretary: If you wish, the group can have someone who is responsible for social events for the group. It's important to have fun too!
