How the board is elected

Amnesty's national meeting selects an election committee that proposes members to the Amnesty board, who are then elected by the national meeting.

The Election Committee prepares a needs analysis as a basis for the selection of board candidates. Criteria such as good board practices, equality, and diversity are to form the basis of the needs analysis.

Bench Proposals

As a member, you can also propose yourself or other members as board candidates through bench proposals. A bench proposal is a proposal for a board candidate who runs for election in addition to the candidates in the Election Committee's recommendation. If you are going to make a bench proposal, it is important that you have spoken to the person you are proposing in advance so that you know they want to run.

A bench proposal must be submitted in writing with a rationale for why you are proposing the candidate. The deadline for submitting bench proposals will be during the national meeting.

You can submit a bench proposal to Amnesty by email at [email protected] after the recommendation has been published.
