URGENT Colombia: Sønnen til kvinneaktivist løslatt
Amnesty International has just received reports that Germán Alonso Vera was released safe and well on the morning of 25 July.
He had been abducted on 24 July by men who reportedly identified themselves as members of a paramilitary group. His mother, Flor María Vera, is a member of the Organización Femenina Popular (OFP), Popular Women’s Organization, and it is believed that the abduction may have been an attempt to deter members of the OFP from participating in the Movilización Nacional de Mujeres, a womens march the following day.
The OFP has been working to promote womens human rights in Barrancabermeja and the surrounding Magdalena Medio region for 29 years. They refuse to cooperate with army-backed paramilitary groups, and so face continual threats and harassment.
No further action is required by the Urgent Action network at present. Thank you for all your efforts.|
