Greetings from the regional office!
Action Circular: May 1st ✨
May 1st is International Workers' Day, celebrated across the country with events, speeches, and marches. This year, we hope you will join us in bringing attention to the human right violations in Gaza.
Israel's ruthless bombing of Gaza has led to a society that has completely collapsed, eradicating the possibility of earning a dignified livelihood for the entire population of Gaza. All principles regarding the right to work, equality, and economic and social security have been erased by this man-made crisis.
Learn more about what you can do to raise awareness on May 1st in the new action circular below.
Tuesday 23rd of April there will be a digital campaign training with political advisor Gerald Folkvord, sign up below, and remember to tick off that you want it in english!
From April 19th to 21st, it was time for the Annual General Meeting and a celebration of 60 years of Amnesty in Norway – and what a weekend it was!
Members from all over the country gathered to participate in debates, vote on important issues, connect with fellow members, and, most importantly, to be inspired and motivated to continue the fight for human rights. Together, we adopted exciting policies for Amnesty's future. A overview of all decisions will be available in the minutes and protocols, which, according to the rules of procedure, will be distributed no later than two months after the National Assembly.
We would like to highlight some of the highlights already. Friday started off with the youth gathering for over 60 young Amnesty-activists.
For the first time, the AGM and the youth gathering was held in our own premises, which created an extra special atmosphere. The old American embassy was filled with dedicated activists, and yellow banners adorned the facade. As tradition dictates, the activist awards were presented. This year's press award went to group 35 in Fredrikstad, represented by Einar Hjørleifsson, for their excellent efforts. The social media award was given to Signer Karmhus for her outstanding work on the Instagram account for the Mid region. The creativity award went to Victoria Steen Hansen, Thea Celine Krantz Andersen, Juni Emilie Baardvik, and Sara Nordahl Thorsen for their brilliant work it the Activist Handbook.
In addition, the prestigious Amnesty Award was presented. This year, it went to NSR-Nuorat and Natur og Ungdom. Leaders from both organizations were present to receive the award and expressed great joy over the recognition of their struggle.
We also had historical reflections and the opportunity to delve into some of our most significant victories as a human rights organization through an inspiring exhibition. Additionally, we had a digital meeting with Agnes Callamard, which was an experience to remember.
The weekend concluded with a collective tribute to Narges Mohammadi, who turned 52 on Sunday. The video has now reached Narges's family, who express their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed. They mentioned that the video brought tears to their eyes. You can watch it here: Vi avsluttet landsmøte 2024 i kjent Amnestystil med et bursdagsstunt til en av vår tids største menneskerettighetsforkjempere, Narges… | Instagram
We want to thank everyone who participated, contributed to the debates, and created a fantastic atmosphere during the National Assembly. We are already looking forward to the next one!"
