Greetings from the regional office!
8. March - Woman, Life, Freedom
On March 8, we gather to commemorate International Women’s Day and raise our voices for women fighting for freedom and justice in Iran under the slogan: Woman, Life, Freedom.
Inspired by the memory of Jina Mahsa Amini and the protests following her tragic death, we focus on solidarity with those risking everything for human rights. The fight for freedom is far from over.
By participating in this year’s event, we demonstrate that the struggle for women’s rights knows no borders. Join us in demanding justice for those who have sacrificed so much – together, we can bring hope and strengthen a global movement for rights and equality!
In the action guide below, we’ve included tips, tricks, and relevant actions for this year’s March 8 activities – join us!
Just transition in Sàpmi - Action circular, report launch and campaign training
We have launched the campaign Just Transition in Sápmi, which highlights the need for a fair transition where Sámi rights and traditions are recognized.
Amnesty aims to be the world’s best support crew so that Sámi reindeer herders are not left to stand alone in this matter. We will do everything we can to amplify their voices and ensure they are heard. In the action guide below, you’ll find examples of what we can do.
For those who couldn’t attend the campaign training earlier in January, we have recorded a session that you can find below.
Wednesday, January 29, Amnesty will launch a brand-new report on Sámi rights in the face of land encroachment.
Stay tuned for the launch and join us in amplifying the fight for Sámi rights!
A ceasefire does not mean the genocide is over
A ceasefire agreement alone is not sufficient to end the genocide. Palestinians in Gaza continue to suffer living conditions that threaten their survival as a group. To put an end to Israel ’s genocide, the following actions must take place:
- Restore humanitarian aid: Ensure Palestinians have access to food, medicine, and essential services to meet their basic needs and safeguard their dignity.
- End restrictions and abuses: Immediately lift all restrictions on Palestinians’ freedom of movement, including forced displacement, torture, and mistreatment of prisoners.
- Address genocidal rhetoric: Hold Israeli leaders accountable for statements that indicate intent to commit genocide and respond with decisive international action.
- Enforce accountability for international law violations: Israel must be held responsible for actions that violate international law. Ongoing monitoring is essential to ensure that Israel’s politics and practices no longer meet the criteria for genocide under international law.
We therefore encourage all activists to continue spreading the message and using the material with the slogan "Stop the genocide".
AGM: activism awards
We need your nomination for the 2025 Activist Awards by March 23!
Do you know an activist who has been particularly creative in their activism?
A group that has excelled on social media, or someone who has done outstanding work with the press?

One of the highlights of the National Meeting is the presentation of the Activist Awards, celebrating the incredible activism happening all over the country. The categories are Social Media, Creativity, and Press Awards.
Whether you’re attending the National Meeting or not, we hope you’ll nominate someone for this year’s Activist Awards. Read more and fill out the form using the link below!

Stand with Ukraine - 24. February
February 24 marks three years since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. This is a date we know well and will commemorate again this year.
On this day, Ukrainian organizations around the world are organizing events. We encourage all Amnesty activists to participate in local commemorations taking place in many locations across Norway. The more people who attend, the stronger the message will be. Feel free to reach out to the organizers in your area and ask how you can contribute.
If nothing is planned in your area, your Amnesty group is welcome to take the initiative. In that case, please contact your regional leader in advance.
More information about this year’s action and guidelines will be shared soon!
This newsletter will go out to all activists who are registered in groups on Min Side. Currently, I see that not everyone is registered here and ask group leaders to share with those who may not have received this e-mail - thank you!
Get in touch if you have any questions!
